Depression

Very often these days we hear about people suffering from depression. Often it takes the dark road to suicide as in the case recently of Naomi Judd. Does it seem this is happening more often? I grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, and so on and don’t remember hearing about the “LAST ACT” much at all.  Of course it was going on, so either the light has been shed on the issue or the incidents have really gone up.

What can be done if you are suffering? Of course the pharmaceutical companies have their answers and if you are under a medical doctors care that is one option. Please take time to learn to meditate so you can really check in as to what thoughts must be let go and what thoughts should be investigated. It may be a spiritual answer is the key, taking inventory of your blessings is helpful as gratitude is very powerful. Exercise releases endorphins that make you happier for a time. Look at your diet honestly and if any alcohol abuse or other substances are playing a role.

Lastly, take time to nurture friendships as a “tribe” in your life other than family is integral as a support system. If all attempts to feel better fail, contact the suicide prevention organization for further help like “suicidepreventionlifeline.org” or call 1-800-273-8255
