We can do the things that contribute to well-being or sabotage ourselves by doing stupid things.
Exercise, good food, good sleep, a healthy social life are the lifestyle choices we should be making. Sadly, too many older adults fall into depression and use that to justify prescription meds, and alcohol abuse. Just yesterday a long-time friend ended up in the hospital after her habit of drinking a bottle of wine every night, marijuana, and Xanax led to a grande-mall seizure. Unfortunately she lived alone and her family took a couple of days to break into her house to investigate her unanswered phone calls. She laid half comatose on her kitchen floor after vomiting, falling and hitting her head. The EMT’s arrived and probably she won’t be able to live alone after this as her memory and brain function is impacted. Only 71 and in that predicament is shocking to me.
Let’s do better….work through your old age pain, ride that bike, go to your gym, meet with friends, nurture a spiritual life and above al practice gratitude….It will take you far!
